Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
A tending space for LGTBQ+ and/or Neurodivergent individuals and couples and for folks with complex trauma. If you’ve learned to survive by shrinking, masking, or staying vigilant, you’re not broken—you adapted. Healing doesn’t require forcing change, but moving at the speed of trust and rhythm of safety with someone attuned alongside you. I am a trauma-informed, non-pathologizing therapist rooted in somatic, creative, and relational modalities where I help clients to cultivate nervous system safety and regulation, reconnect with their bodies and intuition, and reclaim their authenticity and agency, supporting them in living a more expressed, embodied, and expansive life.

Well, I'm here to help you navigate the changes and uncertainties in your life so you can build your confidence, find answers, and take charge of your life in a meaningful way. I can provide a safe, trusting, and nonjudgmental atmosphere to guide you on a journey to build new tools, discover your truth, overcome obstacles, gain clarity, and heal. I have worked with clients for nearly 30 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I focus my work on helping clients foster a lighthearted relationship with the self, body and mind. Together, I work with my clients to discover self-compassion and internal strengths, resources, humor, and focus. I have found that from this place of self awareness, new skills and lasting change can form. In addition, I have a specialty focus working with the Spanish speaking community and Crime Victim Compensation clients. I offer a free phone consultation prior to scheduling the first session if desired.
I'm a clinical psychologist providing individual therapy for adults and adolescents. If you're here, then you're probably looking for a change. Life can be unpredictable, complicated, and demanding. Low self-esteem, unpleasant moods, challenging relationships, and academic/professional stressors can be difficult to navigate alone. Together we can determine what a change may look like for you and develop strategies for moving towards that change. I view therapy as a collaborative process -- a joint effort towards feeling more connected, satisfied, and adaptable. I work with professionals, students, artists, musicians, parents, and many other individuals.

Welcome to Venya Therapeutics. We believe therapy should be a place where you feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported—not judged. Our team helps adolescents, college students, couples and adults navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, self-esteem, and stress. We have a holistic approach and evidence-based approach while recognizing that every person’s story is unique. Whether you’re working through a difficult season or seeking personal growth, we’re here to help you build resilience, community, deepen self-understanding, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Many people come to therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or like they’re “stuck” in patterns they understand but can’t seem to change. You may notice yourself pushing through stress, overthinking, shutting down, avoiding conflict, or feeling out of touch with how you actually feel. Many of us were never taught how to understand our emotions, regulate anxiety, or listen to what our bodies are trying to communicate. We learn to push through stress, become disconnected from ourselves, or rely on coping patterns that once helped us survive but no longer serve us. While traditional talk therapy focuses on changing thoughts or understanding patterns, somatic therapy includes working with emotions, nervous system responses, and physical sensations in the body. Together, we slow down and begin building a more compassionate and curious relationship with your internal experience rather than fighting against it. I integrate Somatic Experiencing®, Brainspotting, and Internal Family Systems (IFS)–informed approaches, with attention to how past relationships and nervous system patterns show up in the present. Sessions are paced to help you notice what’s happening internally, build capacity for difficult emotions, and unwind long-held stress and tension. With over 17 years of clinical experience, I help clients feel more ease, aliveness, and connection to themselves and others—especially those who continue to feel “stuck” even after years of therapy.
You’re not broken...you’re overwhelmed. If you’re a college student, grad student, or campus professional who looks like they’re “doing fine” but feels anything but fine on the inside, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with say things like: “My brain never shuts off.” “I overthink everything I say or do.” “I’m exhausted, but slowing down feels scary.” “I keep it together for everyone else, but I’m unraveling inside.” “I don’t know how to rest without guilt.” On the outside, you’re capable, responsible, and high-functioning. On the inside, it feels like you’re carrying a constant mental and emotional load, and you’re tired of holding it all alone. I work with students and campus professionals who are: •burnt out and emotionally overloaded •stuck in anxiety, overthinking, or shame spirals •sensitive to feedback, conflict, or perceived disappointment •struggling with ADHD-style busy brains or emotional regulation •quietly afraid they’re “too much” or “not enough” You don’t need another productivity system, mindset hack, or pressure to “get it together.” You need a space where: •you don’t have to perform •your nervous system can slow down •your thoughts don’t run the show •you can untangle what actually matters to you How we’ll work together My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) -a skills-based, evidence-supported approach that helps you: •get out of mental spirals without trying to force your thoughts away •respond more flexibly to stress, emotions, and uncertainty •build self-trust instead of self-criticism •create steadiness without losing your drive or ambition This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about learning how to be with yourself differently with more clarity, compassion, and choice. Support that fits campus life •Online therapy — flexible and accessible around classes, teaching, and work schedules •Walk & Talk sessions — for clients who think better with movement and nature •Small supportive groups — connection without pressure or emotional labor •Between-session tools — gentle prompts and supports so therapy doesn’t live only in the session If you’re wondering… •“Is therapy going to be too intense?” •“What if I don’t even know what I need?” •“What if I’m not ‘bad enough’ for therapy?” Those questions make sense — and you don’t need to answer them before reaching out. I offer complimentary consultations so you can get a feel for the process without pressure or obligation. You don’t have to know exactly what you want yet. We’ll start where you are — and move at a pace that actually works for you. 👉 Schedule a free consultation at www.thereddoortherapy.org ⸻ Emily MacNiven CO Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) LPC.0019496 Founder of The Red Door Therapy & Wellness Solutions Online therapy for adults across Colorado 🔗 www.thereddoortherapy.org

Have you been feeling stuck in your relationships, unsure how to speak up for what you really need? Do you find yourself caught between who you are and who you think you’re supposed to be? You deserve a space where you can explore what’s happening internally, with curiosity instead of judgment. As a therapist, I work with individuals and couples navigating trauma recovery, emotional disconnection, and relationship challenges. I have particular expertise supporting survivors of abuse, as well as individuals seeking to deepen their emotional awareness and honest communication skills. No matter where you are in your healing process, I foster a safe, welcoming environment where you can feel grounded and empowered to reclaim your voice.
You and your life isn’t one note. You are multifaceted and the demands you face happen to be as well – particularly when you are a student. Currently, the sound-track of your life has moved away from the sounds of a harmonious symphony -or maybe from an upbeat pop song- to something more unnerving and stressful (like the alarm you use to wake up to in the morning or the background music in a horror film—building tension, bracing yourself from some known or unknown threat). It makes sense that life has been overwhelming -increased responsibilities and life demands alone would contribute to this feeling. Add fears about the future, a recent breakup, challenging relationship dynamics with family, and/or other stressors and you might find yourself tipping the scales of your emotional bandwidth. I help students focus on the unique aspects of their lives that are no longer serving them – with empathy, tools, problem-solving, and emotional healing and growth. I believe you can have a richer and higher-quality of life– free from the overwhelming influence of your current life demands, harmful past experiences, poor modeling, and environmental toxicities (psychological). Do you lie awake at night, sheets twisting beneath you, worst-case scenarios running through your head? On social media, you’re bombarded with horrific news of terrorist attacks, plane crashes, mass shootings. The unremarkable posts hurt just as much. Captions like “My mom is the best! I’d be lost without her!” make you clench up inside, heat coursing through your veins. People tell you to “Stay strong,” but they have no idea what you’ve been through. After experiencing trauma, nothing feels safe or certain. You want to curl up on the couch and push everything else away. I am so glad you are here. You deserve to be seen, heard and understood. With an outstretched hand, I will meet you where you are and together we can walk towards wholeness and healing. Imagine waking up fully rested, enjoying that smooth cup of coffee, driving to work confident that you can handle the day’s challenges and feeling fully present in your life. I’m ready to help you heal from trauma. Let's shed the shame and weight so you feel calm and in control. Send me an email today so we can schedule our first session. You deserve to take up space. You are worth it.
You’re tired of thinking about food all the time. Maybe you feel out of control around eating — especially at night — or stuck in a cycle of dieting, shame, and binging. You might even feel like you should know better, but nothing seems to stick. It’s exhausting, lonely, and can leave you hating your body and doubting yourself. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone — and you're not broken. Food may have helped you cope, but now it’s causing more pain than relief. I help people heal their relationship with food so they can stop the cycle and reconnect with themselves. Our work will be collaborative and compassionate. We'll explore the emotions and patterns that drive eating behaviors and practice tools like mindfulness, boundary setting, and emotional regulation. My approach is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and tailored to your unique needs. You deserve peace with food and your body — and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Are you wanting to work on building better relationships with your loved ones? If so, I help people understand themselves and the challenges life brings. Don't wait to start a more fulfilling life. It is as simple as saying yes. I look forward to hearing your story.
I am a licensed clinical social worker who has been providing individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults for the past 20 years. My therapeutic style can be described as interactive, empathetic, nonjudgmental and gently challenging. I believe that the relationship between the therapist and client is essential to positive, healthy change. It is often the relationship with a supportive and skilled therapist that allows people to talk about and explore issues/struggles that feel too difficult to explore on their own. Because therapy is such a unique and personal journey, therapy is centered on you and your unique needs as we work together to build on your strengths, focus on solutions and develop new skills and insights, to help you achieve the personal growth you are seeking.
I spent much of my adult life working in Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic before going to the Physician Assistant program at Loma Linda University in Southern California. After graduating from there in 2018, I spent the past five years working in addiction medicine in a residential treatment program in Boulder, Colorado. Working in addiction medicine, I commonly assisted adult patients, of all ages, dealing with anxiety, depression, cravings, withdrawal symptoms and sleep challenges. Patients would often come to me wanting to reduce their amount of medications to just what was helpful and necessary and I would take a lot of pride in helping them achieve that goal. Genetic testing provides a helpful tool to initially choose, change or adjust a dose of a particular medication. I believe that it is important to meet an individual where they are in the healing process and to address the whole person rather than just the presenting problem or symptom. To address the “whole person” requires getting a detailed history and a partnership between patient and provider. Establishing such a partnership gives me great joy.
Life can feel overwhelming when you are carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or emotional pain on your own. You may feel stuck, exhausted, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. I work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma and complex trauma, sexual trauma, grief and loss, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and less alone as we work toward healing and relief together. My approach to therapy is warm, supportive, and down to earth. I want counseling to feel like a safe place where you can openly talk through what you are facing without judgment. Together, we will find practical ways to help you move toward healing, growth, relief, and hope. Reaching out for support can feel difficult, but you do not have to go through things alone. If you are ready to take the next step, I would be honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey. Feel free to reach out by phone, email, or text at 970-829-8780.
Feeling "not good enough"? Like no mater how hard you try, you still feel "inadequate"? You don't have to internalize this damaging societal programming. It seems to bombard us from all directions: social media, in-groups at school, family, professors, society at large. Together we'll work to replace this narrative with one of innate worthiness, internal strength, emotional intelligence, enhanced well being, and more fulfilling relationships. In addition to traditional talk therapy, we'll use proven breathing techniques and movement exercises to reduce stress, anxiety, or depression and make room for your true uninhibited self to arise.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. For me, being a physician is more than a profession—it is a vocation to help indviduals flourish. My practice is devoted to students and young adults seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care that extends beyond symptom relief. I provide comprehensive evaluations that consider medical, nutritional, lifestyle, and psychological factors—including laboratory testing when clinically appropriate—to identify the contributors to emotional and cognitive health. I also specialize in evidence-based de-prescribing for patients who wish to reduce or discontinue psychiatric medications for anxiety, attention difficulties, or substance use disorders. My approach is guided by precision, humility, and restraint: using the least intensive intervention necessary while drawing upon the full breadth of evidence-based medicine. Depending on each patient's needs and goals, I integrate psychotherapy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, exercise, targeted supplementation, and, when appropriate, carefully selected medications into a personalized treatment plan. In addition to my clinical work, I have presented internationally on psychiatric deprescribing and medical ethics. My work has been recognized with awards from the American Psychiatric Association, the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and other leading professional organizations. I am the Founder & Medical Director of Verigrate Health. I am licensed to serve patients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Lousiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.
