Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
Many different disorders can be improved or be eliminated by using neurofeedback. First a QEEG is collected. This involves placing a cap on the client’s head and collecting brain wave information from 19 specific sites. This information is processed, and a brain map is produced. The therapist then evaluates the data, completes a comprehensive health history, and then based on both symptoms and goals, develops an individualized protocol of successive neurotherapy sessions. Treatment is noninvasive, is not painful, but does require a commitment. Just as you must work out your body consistently to see results, neurofeedback sessions must be completed two to three times a week to be beneficial. The neurofeedback treatments involve placing sensors on the scalp. The sensors pick up brainwave signals which are first amplified and then filtered through software that works with a computer to generate real time feedback. The brain activity is either increased or decreased in the identified areas until the optimal balance is achieved The typical treatment plan will vary from individual to individual, but most common disorders can be resolved in about 40 sessions.

I support teen girls, young women, and mothers who are carrying heavy feelings about self-esteem, body image and eating struggles. I also specialize in working with women on their prenatal journey; navigating the big transitions of pregnancy and postpartum. So often, these seasons of life bring up emotions we’re told we shouldn’t have—confusion, doubt, even resentment—right alongside love and joy. My role is to create a space where nothing has to be hidden, and where your whole experience is welcome. Analytical? Confused by others' emotions or responses? Nerdy? Scientific? Intrigued by pop culture? Let me help you find the space to explore your existing thoughts, to deepen your connection to those around you or achieve the goals that have been at arms length. Whether we are talking about severe mental health obstacles, healing traumatic wounds or wanting to fulfill goals, I will guide you through the pathways to healing. I will support you in tapping into your existing power and insight to engage the most fulfilling and meaningful life that you deserve. I am an EMDR therapist who uses an existential and humanistic approach to cultivate healing and growth in my clients lives. I am easy to talk to, nerdy, compassionate and honest. I treat a wide range of individual and relational issues. I enjoy supporting people who love a person who is mentally/physically ill or struggling with substance use. I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all and I meet people where they are at. I believe you already have all the power for change within but struggle to access it as needed. If what I have written resonates, reach out and let me help you find the happiness, success, joy, and healing you’re looking for.
Finding ourselves stuck in problems that we can't seem to figure out isn't uncommon and asking for help isn't easy, but it is a brave first step. My hope is that once I have the opportunity to get to know you and your unique experiences, I can help you to develop the skills to manage life's challenges in a way that you can be proud of. I have worked with children, families and adults and tailor my practice to the individuals I serve. I strive to create a space that is safe, non-judgemental and considers the complexity of your life. My past work has been with individuals of all ages who have experienced complex trauma and the resulting depression, anxiety, anger, fear, shame and grief. I strive to create a safe and anti-oppressive practice that respects, validates and affirms individual racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, gender and sexual identities. I believe that people are meant to live in relationship, but that often we get stuck in negative cycles of relating to ourselves, others and the world that keep us from growth and joy. In my own life, I have worked and continue to work to break down these things for myself, and I am honored to join others in their work to do the same. :)
Do you find yourself over-working in your job or school and under-connecting in relationships? Escaping via addiction while struggling with emotional pain, fear, loneliness, or shame? Maybe you just know something is wrong but aren’t even sure what to call it. If this sounds familiar, I can help. There are a lot of conflicting expectations out there for who men “should be.” Some say you should be tough and ambitious, while others say you should be empathetic and sensitive. I have experienced this myself and understand how difficult it can be to sort through it and make sense of it all. I became a therapist to help men become healthier individuals with healthier relationships–to help men move past trauma, addiction, and shame. I know how confusing and painful this can be, and I can tell you from personal experience that there is hope and a better way. My counseling style is to work with you collaboratively to help you identify false beliefs, process the pain and shame that formed these beliefs, and move forward with healthier mindsets, behaviors, and relationships. I utilize a down-to-earth, practical approach to help you identify what you are already doing that might be working well, what might not be so helpful, and to learn skills for better emotional management, communication, boundary setting and more. At the same time, we will also roll up our sleeves and work to heal the deeper emotional wounds from your past. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Addictions Counselor, and am trained in EMDR. This specific combination of professional training and licensure in mental health, addictions, and trauma has prepared me to help men who often struggle with various combinations of these issues. When looking for a therapist, it is important to choose someone with the expertise to speak into these areas and the complex interactions between them. I also have a background in Christian missions and Bible teaching and incorporate this to whatever extent you desire. Together we can get you there. I have a rare combination of characteristics and training that make me uniquely well-suited to help men along their journey towards growth, healing, and freedom. And that is exactly what I’d like to do for you. If any of this resonates with you, send me an email, or call me to set up an appointment and get started. Let’s get down to work.
