I specialize in working with adolescents, college students, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and related concerns. While I specialize in using a cognitive behavioral (CBT) approach, it may also be useful to integrate insight-oriented therapies, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing approaches, depending on specific client needs. I utilize tailored approaches with clients to help them become the best versions of themselves. Therapy looks different for everyone, as it should. No matter what each client’s goals are, I emphasize trusting the process. From my perspective you are the expert on yourself; I follow your lead. I work to meet my clients where they are which means that stepping on the gas or pumping the brakes is up to you, allowing you to feel a sense of control during sessions. My hope is that you will feel like you are talking with someone who is genuinely interested in helping you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

Meaningful relationships help maintain mental and physical health and can be an antidote to stress. When our core relationships are struggling or when we're struggling to build core relationships, the stress and loneliness can permeate all aspects of our lives. Relational stress and loneliness are reasons many people seek the support of a therapist. Through therapy, clients can explore relationship patterns and barriers preventing them from making and maintaining meaningful and warm connection with others. Treatment can include treating symptoms of social anxiety, exploring discomfort with intimacy, navigating conflict, setting boundaries, and voicing needs. In addition to individual therapy, family and couple therapy can provide insight into system dynamics. Clients learn to recognize and change negative cycles and build deeper and more positive bonds. If you are dissatisfied with your relationships and are ready to work toward change, meeting with a therapist is a great place to start. If you’re not sure if individual, couple, or family therapy is the right choice, a free consultation with a therapist to discuss options can be helpful. If you think I might be a good fit, please reach out.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E. Frankl One of the greatest gifts we can grant ourselves is the gift of inner peace. While we may not have control over our environment, situations, or the actions of others, we do have the power to control our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. As a therapist-in-training, I am dedicated to helping clients identify and understand the connections between their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and the decisions that shape their daily experiences. My goal is to help you turn life's lemons into lemonade. We all encounter challenging experiences, and I understand the importance of having a robust support system, combined with the right resources, time, and commitment. My aim is to ensure you feel safe, understood, validated, empowered, and supported throughout our sessions. Together, we will explore various therapeutic interventions to identify the best fit for your individual situation. I am currently a second-year graduate student at UMGC/Salisbury-Global Campus, pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work. My experience includes working with wounded warriors and NATO allies stationed overseas, addressing issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, substance abuse, separation anxiety, and identity struggles. "It's a privilege to be able to bear witness to someone's story when they may not have had the chance to tell it before." I’m here to hear you; to sit with you through the tough stuff, lift you up, challenge you, and cheer you on as we work together to identify and reach your goals. I help teens and young adults challenge depression, face their anxiety-driven fears, build self-confidence, and manage life’s stressors by taking a hands-on approach to problem-solving and building upon meaningful changes. I will help you identify and utilize your strengths, establish positive coping skills, improve communication, reframe the way you think, and build healthy habits. You are the author of your story, and I am eager to hear your history and help you identify what your next chapter holds. I believe people begin to heal the moment they feel heard, so it is my honor to be on the receiving end of what you are ready to share. I specialize in anxiety, stress, OCD, perfectionism, and body focused repetitive behaviors like skin picking and hair pulling. I will also work with you on self-esteem/body image, relationship conflicts, time management, depression, and life transitions.
I help my clients understand how their beliefs (about themselves and others) affect their decisions and how their decisions affect their lives, while also exploring whether the beliefs are more so based on exaggerated fears stemming from past heartaches and trauma or realistic self-conceptions. Additionally, we work on reducing bad habits. This approach is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. And, I specialize in a form of CBT called Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), used to treat OCD.

Hello! I’m Sakena, and I’m a Master’s student in the Social Work Program at Binghamton University. I aim to create a safe space for clients to comfortably navigate through any difficulties. I understand everyone is different, and with that, I make sure my approaches are in each client’s best interest. When working with clients, I use approaches such as active listening, skill building, and mindfulness to help clients through the difficult experiences they’re facing. These skills come from a holistic approach that is person-centered and follows CBT and SFBT. My goal as your therapist is to help you reach your goals. I believe this journey is a collaborative process, and you can progress through it at your own pace. I hope to help clients explore how past experiences have shaped their current emotions and way of life. So together, we can highlight your strengths and aim for clarity and balance.
