From a young age, I felt driven by a deep curiosity about the inner worlds of others. Our inner world is uniquely shaped by our individual lived experiences, making each of us distinct in how we perceive and navigate life. I aim to foster a space that allows for the exploration of how one's lived experiences shapes identity, contribute to repeating patterns and impacts our relationship with ourselves and others. With a warm, collaborative and non-judgmental approach, I support clients in navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem, identity and interpersonal relationships. Blending psychodynamic, relational and DBT practices along with mindfulness techniques, I strive to create a safe space for exploration and growth. With extensive experience supporting adults and students in both private and public mental health settings, I bring a rich and diverse perspective to the therapeutic process. To me counseling is a delicate and committed process that involves honoring each client's experience and working together to expand self-awareness and connection.
It's been an endless search for a therapist who really gets you. Someone who can dive into your problems without making you feel you have to compartmentalize important parts of your life. Someone who can be a safe sounding board whatever comes up. I want you to know it's ok to show up however you're feeling that day. It's ok to open up at your own pace. I will be right here beside you as you discover unique pathways towards resilience, fulfillment and fun. I center the needs of non-binary & other LGBTQ people in my practice. I help people navigate: stress management and resilience; emotional impact of chronic illness; family of origin issues; and enhancing fulfillment in all sorts of relationships through increased self-knowledge, communication, and collaboration. I believe therapy is most effective when it is a dynamic, collaborative process that integrates the wisdom of our body, mind and spiritual self. I use various approaches including Brainspotting, Heartmath, and mindfulness-based somatic therapy, that allow us to access the deep healing potential of brain, body and mind. Welcome to my practice! My name is Nick and I am a licensed mental health counselor, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and board certified telemental health provider. All services are offered online only. Most of our suffering derives from within. Imagine if you talked to a loved one the way you talk to yourself, or if someone spoke to you the way you speak to yourself. It would be unacceptable and it would not be tolerated. Yet we surrender to these thoughts, repeating the same hurtful, debilitating monologue in the echo chamber of our mind. Herein lies the certainty that derives from being on your own, stuck in a position you never reasoned yourself into in the first place. As you develop an awareness of these thoughts that have so greatly affected your life, you’ll learn how to develop a new, more rational narrative based on the values and beliefs that you yourself will create. As your therapist, my job is to navigate this process as you learn to actively change your thoughts, which change your feelings and impact your actions. I am a firm believer in achieving functionality. We want life to work for us, and not against us. Being a flawed, living, breathing human being, I too struggle with this everyday, and I bring that intense desire to make things work in the therapeutic relationship. We work together to solve the ambivalence. It is understandable that when it comes to our motivation to change, we have our ups & downs. I know what it feels like to be stuck. It’s painful, and when you’re in it, you think it will never end. The good news is that it does, and the process of seeing that end can be so much better having someone that understands you by your side, every step of the way. So are you ready to get started?

About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists in-training accruing clinical hours.
