Over the last 13 years of being a therapist I’ve had the privilege to meet and treat so many people, each of whom was on their own journey to better mental health and now my own career journey has led me here. I started Caim Counseling as a place for people to address their mental health so that they can be empowered to heal. I believe strongly in meeting people where they’re at and tailoring mental health care treatment to what each individual needs. I have an eclectic approach which leans towards Person-Centered therapy and have done additional work in areas like women’s issues, eating disorders, anxiety, grief, and LGBTQIA+ specific concerns. I believe strongly in the equality of all people and am committed to having an inclusive practice. I can’t wait to meet you and see how we can work together to get you to a place of better mental health.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I help college students and young adults who are struggling with over-thinking, excessive worrying, feeling overwhelmed, low mood or feeling frequently annoyed. I work with people who want healthier relationships and more self-confidence. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral and solution focused strategies to help people better understand their thoughts, behaviors and feelings. We then work as a team to identify realistic steps to help move things in a new direction. I offer support, but also teach specific skills to help people make change. Maybe you don't know what's wrong or what you need. I strive to create a warm, safe environment where we can figure that out together.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. I graduated from Widener University where I earned a master’s in Social Work. While at Widener, I completed a certificate in the treatment of trauma. I began my career at Ambrosia Treatment Center, a substance abuse disorder facility. Over the past five years I have worked in all levels of care within the substance use field. I created a program to treat substance use and eating disorders concurrently. After this program I began building a private practice where I work primarily with individuals who have co-occurring eating disorders and substance use. Outside of Guide to Wellness, I help treatment centers across the country implement veterans programs at their facilities. I use a collaborative approach in treatment. I like to meet clients where they are in their lives and work collaboratively with the individual to create an individualized treatment experience. My approach draws heavily from ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), CBT and exposure therapy. I work to create a trusting, non-judgmental relationship with the individual. I see myself as someone who presents opportunities to the individual and allow them to be the decision maker. I feel my role is to help the individual see the whole picture in their choices.

Grief comes in many forms. We can grieve the loss of a person, a relationship, a community, a job, or an identity. Grief is a natural response to all kinds of loss - changing relationships, going to a new school, moving to a new city, or feeling really worried about the state of the world. We can also grieve the loss of a vision or expectation for the future. Many are struggling with the state of the world while also managing their own stress, anxiety, and sadness. This can feel overwhelming and isolating. The emotions of grief often feel uncomfortable, so we can feel tempted to skip over them and try to move to the next phase. But unprocessed emotions cause us a lot more trouble. You can find meaning and balance in your life, even when the demands feel overwhelming. I will process with you and support you when changes are needed for better coping. I understand that times are tough, and you might feel helpless right now. Let’s work together to help you live and work more effectively. Therapy will help you talk through your struggles, remember your strengths, and develop strategies to cope with life changes, grief, loss, and anxiety. You really can feel better, and you don't have to do this alone.
In partnership with you, I can help alleviate your experiences of trauma, anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues, and other life challenges so you may lead a more fulfilling life. I am seeing all patients by video and phone. You may contact me for a free initial consultation. I see psychotherapy as a psycho-educational experience where you learn about yourself. It is like taking a course in yourself. This counseling process of self-exploration leads to understanding self-defeating thinking and behaviors that may keep you from actualizing potential for successful relationships, success in school, business and career and from having a really happy life. During the 25+ years since I have been a licensed psychologist, I have had the privilege of helping many individuals and couples to achieve a happier, emotionally healthier, and financially successful life. My patients describe me as being a no nonsense person, while at the same time being warm and comfortable. My orientation is Psychodynamic and Cognitive. My thinking is based on psychoanalytic theory, but in practice I react and actively participate in the discussions. I don't just sit silently and nod. Cognitive/behaviorial methods are used as situations require. I have been the family's psychologist for multiple generations, when the participants are comfortable with this mode. Teletherapy - Phone and Video sessions are provided for patients who either cannot come to the office or when they have relocated to a distance too far to travel. During the COVID-19 Pandemic I am conducting all sessions by video and phone.

Hi-- I am Alaina. I am a therapist with a specialization in the treatment of OCD and other neurodivergent disorders such as ADHD and ASD. I work with clients to access freedom from their anxiety. Through the use of Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), I colloboarte with clients to develop tolerance of their levels of distress. It is never shocking to hear that life is scary and uncertain. I do not aim to expel those fears, but rather help you see that -all feelings- are temporary and in reaching out for help, you are showcasing the very first step in unhooking from fears or core beliefs that prevent you from leading a values driven life.
