My work with people focuses on meeting you where you are. First time in therapy? No problem, let's take it slow and figure out what you want to get out of this experience. A seasoned therapy pro? Let's talk about your past therapy experiences and go from there. Where ever you land on the therapy experience spectrum, you are welcome here and I look forward to working with you! The over arching goal of my work with clients is for you to align and connect with who you are and how you want to live. Sometimes that is really easy to identify, but it can also be tremendously overwhelming. Come as you are and leave who you want to be!
Change can be hard, but I'm here to support you. My clients are often in transition, whether they're adapting to a new school or city, experiencing a change in relationships, coping with loss, managing a new health condition, coming out, or simply reflecting on their goals in a new light. If that resonates with you, I want to help you flourish. Depression, anxiety, impulse control issues, and traumatic stress make it harder to navigate change. I have experience serving clients who are working to overcome these mental health challenges. In our first session, we’ll talk about what brings you to counseling, your strengths, the things you value, and where you want your life to go. I aim for you to leave feeling hopeful. My style is genuine and straightforward - I want therapy to take the weight off your shoulders. Please give me a call or send me an email if you'd like to get started!
At times, people just want to have a conversation and we put off going to counseling, because honestly we tell ourselves that this other thing is just a little bit more important, a bit more pressing. We forget to invest in ourselves. Life is tough, there is no doubt about that; but why go through it alone. Let me be that person for you to aid you through those tough times or I can simply be that someone that you talk with. For a free consultation, learn more about my practice, or set up a counseling appointment, please go to www.thelotuscounselor.com or call (610) 699-9475. I specialize in having conversations and I have experience with: grief, stress management, trauma, depression, anxiety, career counseling, adults and youth and more. Hi! My name is Josh Foster, I have over 20 years experience in working with college students, helping them through many of the most difficult emotional barriers and roadblocks that we face. I love working with college students! A lot of the work that I do with people centers around trauma that they have experienced. As someone who has been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of trauma suffered by churches and religious people and systems, I have great empathy and understanding for people dealing with trauma. Here's some of how I approach the work I do with people: I’ll get to know you through asking questions. No one story can encapsulate all of who you are, so I’ll listen and show curiosity about you and your life. I will speak hope to you. I believe that hope is essential to keep moving forward as a human being. I also understand how hard it can be to hold onto. We’ll look for repeated themes, ideas, and connections in your stories so that we can find the problem(s) and discover the tactics and strategies that the problems are using to stay in power. We will work to separate you from the problem(s). I honestly believe that you are not the problem but that whatever problem you are struggling with (anxiety, depression, anger) is the problem. We will discover who you aspire to be and develop tools and strategies that can help you to live for longer stretches of time as the best version of yourself. We’ll work to develop tools that you can utilize in between our sessions, and truths for you to hold on to, so that you can have more hope. I’ll help you learn to pay attention to the ways that your body is trying to communicate to you. I find that the people who make the most progress usually do some reflection between sessions.
I assist in helping my clients find meaning and fulfillment in life by being engaged and by actively guiding you through your unique life challenges. Most of my clients come see me because they just know life could be better. It HAS to be. For many people who walk through my door, their lives aren't shattered, lying breathless in the corner. These people get up every single day and do the thing. But somehow, somewhere, something still feels off. Maybe it's your relationship. Maybe it's you. Maybe you don't know what it is, but life just doesn't seem right. You're not fully happy. Not yet. I help couples, families, and individuals live better. How? By having lived lots of lives, I've developed a unique perspective. One that has allowed me to develop a mental wellness expertise that mixes therapeutic techniques found in human services and combines them with the results-oriented coaching and leadership skills derived from the professional services field. This specific meld of mojo enables me to provide a different kind of service and perspective where other help may have been unsuccessful.

Life throws a lot our way, right? Life transitions, school and work dilemmas, family stuff, that nagging feeling you haven't quite figured it all out. Maybe life feels overwhelming right now. Whatever is on your mind, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to go it alone. This won’t feel overwhelming clinical, and it won’t be a vent session either (unless you want it to be). Our time together will help bring clarity and perspective to equip you with the skills and strategies you need to flourish. We are not just going to talk. We'll work together to find solutions and build the concrete skills you need to thrive. Therapy with me isn't confined to a stuffy office. It's a space where we can chat, laugh, and even take a walk (because sometimes fresh air can do wonders for the mind!). Feeling overwhelmed can happen at any age. That's why I specialize in supporting adults and teenagers as they navigate life's challenges. Ready to take that next step? I offer convenient online therapy sessions, or if you're near the Philadelphia suburbs, we can even get some fresh air with walk-and-talk therapy. (It really can work wonders!) Love the beach vibes? I also offer walk-and-talk life coaching in Ocean City, NJ, during the summer months. Let's talk about how I can support you on your journey.

When many people begin therapy, they don't know where to start. That is totally normal and no one I see needs to have all the answers right now. The people I work with often are going through a tough transition, experiencing stress at school, struggling with feelings of anxiety or depression, or they may have had something really distressing happen to them. Often, they may be noticing patterns of avoidance, procrastination, and self-shaming. Sometimes they're also experiencing stress in their relationships. Whatever is happening, I honor how challenging the process of reaching out for support can be, and I am here to help by working together with those who come to my practice. I specialize in attachment based EMDR therapy, which is incredibly useful for addressing distressing events (in the past or present); chronic stress, severe anxiety, and feeling like you are "stuck" on an issue that just doesn't seem to go away. It can also help resolve old wounds that are impacting current relationships. I'm here to help make the process of beginning therapy easier and help create a sense of safety by collaborating with you to address your needs. I also respect that paying for therapy can be complicated. To help, I offer a service where I can submit billing info to a service that files documentation with your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursements. If eligible, you may be able to receive a portion of your money back for therapy, making payment easier. I am also able to check to see if you're eligible for reimbursement. If you are a student in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Florida, the next step is to email or call me today. I look forward to connecting!
