Therapists for college students near 10003
Do you sometimes feel stuck in parts of your life? Do you notice the same problems keep happening in your relationships or career? Therapy provides a space to examine how you perceive yourself and the world. It also helps with discussing and processing difficult and painful feelings. These feelings provide new insight into ways to grow and change. My approach to therapy is based on ingredients proven to help, such as a good connection with your therapist and feeling understood and supported. I'm a graduate of Duke University; I completed my doctorate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester. Most recently, I was a generalist at Cornell Health, where I focused on interdisciplinary clinical care. I specialize in anxiety, stress, and compulsive habits people develop to cope with them. I know it takes a lot of strength and courage to start this process, and I respect that. We'll schedule our first session during your initial consultation. We'll discuss your current concerns and mental health history in the first session and develop a plan of care that feels right to you. Please visit my webpage to schedule a consultation.

Natalia is the Associate Director of the Counseling Service at Vassar College, where she counsels students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition, at Vassar, she trains the next generation of psychotherapists as a senior supervisor to MSW students and Post-Doctoral Candidates. Natalia was born and raised in South America, and from a young age, she was interested in how culture, family, and the environment shape who we are and who we want to become. Thus, Natalia approaches her psychotherapeutic from a multicultural lens, helping you make sense of what brought you to this moment as a base to understand where you want to go and support you as you get there. Natalia trained as a psychotherapist in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania where she found her passion for working with college students as a trainee at the Counseling and Psychological Services of UPENN. I'm a zen practicing therapist+musician who loves working with people on their journeys to healthier relationships and becoming their most authentic selves. I was raised fundamentalist and spent my childhood learning fire and brimstone theology and memorizing verses from the King James Bible. Needless to say I chose to leave the "sinners in the hands of an angry God" mentality behind when I grew up. The truth is, being hard on ourselves doesn't help us or anyone else. But compassion, love, acceptance and presence connect us to who we really are, and who we can become. Along the journey, I've played a lot of music (with friends, in bands) and become a therapist. I wrote an album while in grad school and took a year off after grad school to play shows and work at a record store. I believe it's OK to have multiple passions, to want to do a lot of things, to use your voice, and to take your time figuring it all out. In our work together, I want to help you tap into your own creativity and inner wisdom while also drawing from evidence-based modalities to help you live a purposeful life, deepen your relationships, and reach your goals as a couple or as an individual. LGBTQI affirming. Puedo hablar contigo un poco de español, pero no puedo hablar con fluencia.

I specialize in trauma-informed care, including complex, childhood, and sexual trauma. I focus on PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflict, and gender identity and sexuality. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques including IFS, psychodynamic, relational therapy, and mindfulness practice.

Hi, My name is Marissa Klejbuk and I am so glad you are here taking your first step in finding support! I have a passion in helping people find new ways of managing and working through stressors, especially big life changes like starting college, moving or starting a new job. I also have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, identity, LGBTQ+, intimate partner violence, and sexual trauma. My approach is affirming, holistic, collaborative, and compassionate. I help people understand how our past experiences helped us get to where we are today, whether we initially view these as positive or negative. Sometimes that place is a point of overwhelm or emotional detachment with intrusive thoughts. Sometimes that place is being unaware of our strength and resilience. I wholeheartedly believe that the power of healing and breaking unhealthy patterns lie within the therapeutic practice that empowers your authentic self. I meet your vulnerability with mine to create a safe space that supports deeper processing. I believe in working holistically to help you connect to your mind, body, and soul. I often bring in creativity, metaphor, humor, cognitive-behavioral approach and body-based interventions including mindfulness and imaginative play. Expanding on your skills helps you feel more empowered to make choices that improve all areas of your life. Contact me today for a free phone consultation to see how I can best help you reach your goals!

We are experiencing challenging times. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are numerous and have created a long lasting crisis situation that is exacerbating depression, anxiety, feelings of fear and hopelessness, and triggering unhealthy regressive patterns and behaviors. It has placed stress on marriages, partnerships and families, and has left us feeling disconnected, frustrated and fearful. We are also experiencing a massive shift in our paradigm regarding race and ethnicity, which necessitates a different therapeutic consciousness that is more holistic, and that includes the issue of how racism and inequality affect mental health. As we navigate the “new normal,” it’s important to have a supportive space that can help define issues that are problematic so we can adjust accordingly to the harmful effects of the current crisis. In addition to treating mood disorders and trauma that affect daily functioning, as a relationship therapist, I believe the foundation of all relationships begins with the most important relationship of all – the one you have with yourself. Perhaps the life you have is different from the life you desire. If so, we will focus on core issues that might be preventing you from living that life. Some of the challenges you might be facing at this time include: Toxic/unhealthy dynamics in families of origin. A lack of strong role models. The search for a partner who more closely fulfills your needs. The decision of when/if to start a family. A career that means more than just a paycheck and allows you to live up to your full potential and desires. Unexpected health challenges. A nonconforming identity. We will not only address symptoms. We will examine the changes you want to make to live a more fulfilling life.
Regardless of what you've been through in the past, I believe anyone can benefit from talking to a mental health professional. Collaborating with a counselor can help provide thought provoking insights, allow you to move through problem solving more quickly, and leave you feeling more fulfilled and motivated to reach your desired goals. I offer a non-judgmental standpoint. I feel, it is important to feel heard, validated and supported throughout the counseling process. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression and trauma in any age group. I also have had valuable experience in working with individuals, who have experienced any form of domestic violence. The client and clinician relationship is incredibly important. A good fit should be prioritized, in order to reach a deeper level of meaningful change. I welcome you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with me by either calling or emailing the contact details provided above.
I am a clinical psychologist with almost 25 years of experience in working with college students. I began my career at the University of Rochester and later Johns Hopkins University and Loyola University of Maryland. I have been in private practice since 2003. I have specific interests in the treatment of anxiety, depression, body image, eating disorders and chronic medical conditions. I enjoy working with individuals through the developmental transitions of college. Often times people want to improve their relationships, seek support with the stresses of academic and social lives, all while dealing with the various challenges of being a young adult in today's world. The mental health needs of the 18-25 year old age group are unique and therapy can be a safe place to help navigate them.
I offer the ability to engage conversation regarding anything from test anxiety to the meaning of life. I love working with the college population because they are just finding out who they are and are always thinking critically about themselves and where their talents and abilities fit into this chaotic world. I can help provide guidance to discover what is preventing you from reaching your full potential in both an emotional and intellectual way.
